Weight control vs. diet control No one has direct control over their body weight, percentage of body fat, or waist circumference. Indirect control, maybe, but not direct control. For example, you can't tell your body "lose five pounds" and expect it to obey. You can't wake up and decide your waist-size for the day will be 36 inches. Sure, you could decide to pull out size-36 pants, and try to squeeze into them, but that doesn't mean you'll be able to. … [Read more...]

My LCHF month in review: November 2015
Yes, that's right -- a whole month in review. As you can see, my weight changed little during November, though I ate what many people would call a low-carb, high-fat diet. At least, on an average day. For me, though, 60 total grams of carbs per day (40 grams net) and 67% of calories from fat seems to constitute a maintenance diet. My daily dietary averages and overall weight change for November contrast sharply with those for April of this year: Granted, I averaged 35 more calories per day … [Read more...]
My LCHF week in review: November 2 – 8
Starting weight = 213.00 lbs Ending weight = 211.8 lbs So I'm up a pound since my last full report two weeks ago, but down a pound since my returning from vacation a week ago. I didn't fast last week. I was consistent in my eating patterns, though. The daily averages shown above are a good reflection of how I ate day to day. But time is running out to reach my goal of weighing 199 pounds by the end of 2015. Indeed, it seems impossible to reach that goal. I'd have to lose 1.8 pounds or better … [Read more...]
I took a week off
Actually, it was a long weekend, and I didn't take it off from eating LCHF for the most part, but just from recording every morsel of intake. Anita and I left for Nashville, TN, a week ago today. Nashville is famous for country music, but I was going there to attend a writer's conference, and Anita was along to do some tourist stuff. I decided to give myself a break from the diet record-keeping. … [Read more...]
My LCHF week in review: October 19 – 25
Starting weight = 212.4 lbs. Ending weight = 210.8 lbs. I was more consistent this past week. The averages shown in the table are a good reflection of what I ate every day. And I lost a little weight. Not much else to say. … [Read more...]
My LCHF week in review: October 12 – 18
Starting weight = 212.0 lbs. Ending weight = 212.4 lbs. I've been within a pound of my current weight for six weeks. I guess this is a stall. Another stall, I should say. Earlier I stalled around the 220 pound level. Of course, it is only a "stall" because I'm still desiring to lose weight. If I were at my target weight (199 pounds), and stayed at that weight for weeks on end, it wouldn't be a stall. It would be a plan. … [Read more...]
My LCHF week in review: Sept. 27 – Oct. 4
Starting weight = 212.8 lbs. Ending weight = 212.6 lbs. My eating pattern was similar this past week to the week before, so it's not surprising that the results were also similar. I did cut my average daily carbs a bit from 57 grams to 50 grams. Perhaps that accounts for my very modest weight loss of two-tenths of a pound as opposed to a gain of that same amount the week prior. My average percent of calories from fat only increased from 66% to 67%. I think I need to get that percentage up to … [Read more...]
