Berries in heavy cream

In Food, Personal Reflection on June 13, 2011 at 1:14 pm

For dinner the other night, I ate a chunk of slow-cooked roast-beef, some raw veggies, and as a treat, this bowl of quartered fresh strawberries, whole fresh blueberries, and heavy cream.

I calculate that the bowl contained 90 calories, 9g carbs, 2g fiber, and 6g fat. All of the fat and the majority of the calories came from the heavy cream.  Conventional diet wisdom would say skip the cream, save some calories, avoid the fat.   This is the same conventional diet wisdom that many Americans have tried to follow for 40 years, resulting as some would claim in an ever-fatter nation and epidemics of high blood-pressure and diabetes.  Perhaps it’s time for a new approach.

No shortcake, no cereal, no grains of sugar sprinkled over the top.

Berries and cream, spoon and bowl.  Simple.

Tastes good, too!

Amazing how something so simple can taste so good, plus packing quite the nutritional punch. This shows that one doesn’t have to feel deprived on a low carb diet.

I have just begun eating berries in cream also. It is very good! Who needs all that other stuff like shortcakes or biscuits???

Berries and cream are a better dessert than anything in the carb/sugar world! It’s like taking what was good from dessert and leaving out what was unnecessary!

Yes, that’s it exactly — taking the good part of the dessert and leaving out the rest. Well said!
